TW- Finding the perfect dog food can be difficult. You want something that your dog will enjoy while getting the proper nutrients to keep them healthy and happy. Since Teddy Walter was a puppy he has always been on the Blue Buffalo, chicken and brown rice formula for small breeds (Teddy is only 18 pounds full size). We noticed that he wasn’t always eating right away and most often would only eat at night right before bedtime. We weren’t sure if it was the food or if he was having dietary issues trying to keep his slim figure. We had also tried wet food and within 15 minutes Teddy was sick and the food was coming back up. We will not try that again. It was pretty nasty.

Anyway, so I was at my parents house one day when their dog Jessie was eating her food. I decided to give some to Teddy and low and behold he dove right in. I have never seen him eat so fast. I could tell that it was definitely time to make a change in his dog food. The  food that Jessie eats is the dry Purina One special blend chicken & rice mixed with the Beneful Playful Life. My mom had started mixing these two brands together and the dogs just seem to really love it. Now Teddy eats in the morning and in the afternoon. His diet is much better and he seems much happier with his selection. I am glad we found something that works for him. It also turns out to be cheaper for us to buy the two bags of Purina and Beneful than it is to buy the one bag of Blue Buffalo.  So that is definitely a plus!

When choosing dog food you must factor in the dog’s age, breed, and size.  This will help you find which brand is best suited for your dog.

Do you want to know what your dog is eating? Here is a breakdown of the three brands already mentioned.

It’s not that Blue Buffalo is a bad brand by any means, and I am not here to tell you to stay away because its bad for your dog. In fact Blue Buffalo is a very popular brand these days that is known for being all natural with no artificial preservatives. When we were buying this brand in the pet store it would cost us around $22.00 for a small bag.

Unlike the Buffalo Blue, the Purina One formula is soft and is easier for Teddy to chew. I think this is a major reason why he likes it so much.

This costs around $10.00 for a small bag.
