Wilmington Dog Park at Empie

Wilmington Dog Park at Empie – Wilmington, NC

Wilmington Dog Park at Empie is the first functional off-leash dog park in Wilmington. The park is incorporated into a 2-acre site of unused land within the confines of Empie Park. The park is completely fenced in with two play areas — one for large dogs and another dog dogs under 20 pounds. There is also water, pet waste stations, and lots of shade. Located on the corner of Independence and Park Ave, Behind Steinmart.

The City of Wilmington’s Recreation, & Downtown Services Division along with the Wilmington Dog Park Committee have joined together to implement Wilmington’s first off- leash dog park. Without the dedication and fundraising of the Wilmington Dog Park Committee, this park would not have come to fruition.

  • Completely Fenced In
  • Large Dog & Small Dog areas
  • Play Areas
  • Water and Pet Waste Stations
  • Lots of Shade
  • Free
  • Open Dawn to Dusk

These specific rules apply to the City of Wilmington Dog Park at Empie Park but are great rules to apply to any dog park for the safety and enjoyment of the puppies and their owners.

Patriot Paws Etiquette and Rules

Once you and your dog enter the park, it’s tempting to stand back and watch all the activity. However, everyone will have a more rewarding experience if you observe some basic etiquette during your visit to the dog park. Please be courteous to other dog owners and ensure that your dog is getting along with the other dogs in the park. The following rules must be observed at all times. Anyone not following park rules will risk removal from the park and suspension of their permit. The key to the success of Patriot Paws is YOU.

  • The park is open from 7am – Dusk daily. It will be closed during the winter months.

  • “Off-Leash” dogs must be under voice control of their owner at all times. If voice control is not possible, do not enter the “Off Leash” areas.
