We are quite the patriotic bunch. Most people have BBQ’s and family get togethers during this time and most families have dogs. But have you ever thought about including them in the American themed fun?
Of course I had to try my hand at the idea, and I am no expert at decorating cookies but I thought they turned out super cute and are the perfect addition to our 4th of July BBQ!

These treats are super easy to make. All you really need is a creative mindset and a few items you probably already have in your kitchen.
I used what we already had in our pantry – peanut butter flavored Milk Bones (the dogs favorite), cream cheese, and food coloring.

Simply mix the cream cheese with the food coloring and you’ve got your dog-approved icing! I did melt the cream cheese before decorating the treats to give it a creamier texture, which was pretty easy to work with.
Because the cream cheese isn’t covering a large surface, it is safe to give your dog more than one of the treats a day, but I would try to limit the intake. Cream cheese is completely safe for dogs but it is recommended that you don’t over do it. I gave Keela a whole treat but Mattis only get’s half because of his size. Of course, you know your dog the best so, you know, you do you. 🙂

Now you can get ready for the festivities!

*If you are making this treat the night before your event, make sure to keep them in the refrigerator so the cream cheese doesn’t go bad.
